BJP’s Deepawali Crackers in Kerala

MUMBAI – MAHARASHTRA – INDIA NOVEMBER 08, 2015 09.00 P.M.

In bipolar KERALA politics, BJP is yet to open an account in Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha. But people of KERALA this time delivered a severe jolt to the ruling dispensation United Democratic Front [ UDF ] led by Congress in the Local Body Elections. The only opposition Left Democratic Front [ LDF ] led by CPM emerged winner. But the Bharatiya Janata Party [ BJP ] made strong inroads and sent shivers down the spine of the ruling dispensation and the opposition.

KERALA is bipolar state. UDF, Congress led front and LDF, CPM led front generally rule the state one after another. But the result of Local Body Elections 2015 show that Bharatiya Janata Party improved its seats in Village / Block / District Panchayats and Municipalities / Corporations of KERALA.

BJP had alliance with Sree Narayan Dharma Paripalana Yogam [ SNDP Yogam ]. This alliance with backward caste helped BJP.

BJP became main opposition in THIRUANANTHAPURAM Corporation. 34 Seats in 2015 / 6 Seats in 2010 [ CPM : 42 / BJP : 34 / Congress 21 ] BJP 17 short of majority.

BJP became biggest party in PALAKKAD Corporation. It is 3 short of majority. 24 Seats in 2015 / 15 Seats in 2010 [ BJP : 24 / Congress 16 / CPM 6 / Others 6

BJP became major opposition in THODUPUZHA / THANUR / THRIPUNITHURA Corporations

BJP : Total 51 Seats in 2015 / 9 Seats in 2010 [ + 42 ]

BJP : Total 1242 Wards in 2015 / 480 Wards In 2012 [ + 762 ]

Some of these figures are not big compared to the victory figures of CPM led Left Democratic Front. But one has to remember that state of KERALA is a bipolar state. BJP is yet to open account in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha. Therefore, in my opinion, these results as very significant. If BJP could perform so impressively in Local Body Elections, then its performance in coming Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha would certainly be epoch-making.
